Overview

Most WordPress chatbot plugins add settings pages, database tables, and update cycles to your site. Assistrio runs outside WordPress: you build and train the Agent in Assistrio, then add a single script that loads the chat widget on every page.

It works with classic and block themes, page builders like Elementor or Divi, and WooCommerce stores — anywhere WordPress outputs a closing body tag.

  • The chatbot your visitors see is Assistrio’s Website Chat Widget — branded, mobile-friendly, and trained on your knowledge.

Why add an AI chatbot to your WordPress site?

Visitors on WordPress sites ask the same questions every day — and most leave when nobody answers. An AI chatbot trained on your own content answers instantly, day or night, and hands real buying or support intent to your team with the full conversation attached.

Assistrio answers only from the knowledge you approve — documents, Q&A, snippets, and datasheets — so replies match your actual products, prices, and policies instead of generic AI guesses.

Questions it can answer from your content:

  • “Do you ship to my country?”
  • “Which plan is right for a small team?”
  • “How do I book a consultation?”
  • “What is your refund policy?”

What you need before you start

There is no WordPress app or plugin to install from a marketplace. You paste one Assistrio script into your site, which keeps the setup light and works with any WordPress theme or template.

  • An Assistrio Agent that is published (Go live) with your knowledge added
  • The install snippet copied from Assistrio after publishing
  • Admin access to your WordPress dashboard
  • On WordPress.com: a plan that allows plugins or custom code

Install the chatbot on WordPress (recommended method)

The safest way is a header & footer code plugin such as WPCode — your snippet survives theme updates and you never edit theme files.

  1. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New, search for a header & footer code plugin (for example WPCode), then install and activate it.
  2. Open the plugin’s Header & Footer screen and find the Footer (body end) box.
  3. Paste the Assistrio install snippet into the Footer box and save.
  4. Clear any caching plugin or CDN cache (WP Rocket, LiteSpeed, Cloudflare) so the new script is served.
  5. Visit your site in a private window and open the chat launcher to confirm it loads.

Alternative: add the script to your theme

If you prefer not to add a plugin, paste the snippet directly before the closing </body> tag in your theme’s footer.php. Use a child theme — otherwise a theme update will overwrite your change and the chatbot will disappear.

Block themes do not have a footer.php you can safely edit, so use the plugin method for them.

Add your domain to allowed websites

Assistrio only loads your Agent on websites you approve. Before you test, open your Agent in Assistrio and add every domain visitors use to the allowed websites list — the browser sends your page’s origin, and it must match an entry exactly.

Add both your www and non-www domains if your site answers on both, plus any staging domain (for example staging.yoursite.com) you want to test on.

Test the chatbot on your live site

Open your published site in a private browser window so cached files and logged-in editor views do not hide the widget. The chat launcher should appear in the corner of the page; ask a question your knowledge covers and confirm the answer, then ask one it does not cover to check the fallback and Lead Capture behavior.

Every test conversation appears in Manage Conversations, so you can review exactly what the Agent said and add missing knowledge before real visitors arrive.

Troubleshooting on WordPress

If the chat launcher does not show up, work through these checks in order:

  • Purge your caching plugin and CDN — cached pages are the most common reason the script is missing.
  • Check the allowed websites list matches the exact domain in the browser address bar, including www.
  • If you use a script-optimization plugin that delays or combines JavaScript, exclude the Assistrio script from it.
  • View the page source and search for “assistrio” to confirm the snippet is actually in the HTML.
